馬鹿か?(テストは翌日に返却だとよ...)
テストをいつ返そうが、返すまいが、生徒にガタガタいわれるスジはない。そんなことはまったくうどうでもいい。採点に時間がかかるのは、悪いことではないでしょ。テストは授業で授業はテスト。
It's none of your students' business when you return their test papers. Teaching is testing, and testing is teaching. Creating a test that takes some time to mark is nothing to be avoided; rather it can be evidence that the test is tapping some productive ability (like extended writing), which of course is a good thing.

馬鹿か?(和訳配布禁止令だとよ...)
またイヤな話を聞いた。高校で和訳のプリント配布は禁止で、授業中に口頭で書き取らせないといけないのだそうな。生徒のノートは左が本文、右が手書きの和訳。
賭けてもいいけど、そういう教師はTOEICで900はないし、英検1級はないし、30分英語で講話することはできないし、エッセイも書いたことはないだろう。
自分が英語ができないから、英語ができるようになるための方法がわからず、そういう愚劣なルールをつくって若い教師の芽をつみ、かつ生徒に益のない努力を強いる。
授業が終わった時には、英文が頭に残るように仕向けなければ英語の運用力がつかない、という素人でも分かることがなぜわからない?

Another disgusting episode: at a certain high school, distributing translation for the textbook materials is not allowed before, during, or even after class; the teacher is required to orally give out the translation for students to jot down in class.
What a stupid way of spending precious class time! I bet those who set up such nonsensical rules cannot score 900 in TOEIC, pass STEP 1st, give an extended speech in English, or write an essay. In a nutshell, those teachers cannot use the language!!
They prevent promising young teachers to give effective classes and force their students to make futile efforts simply because they do NOT understand themselves what being able to use the language is about. Preposterous! You don't need to be a rocket scientist to see that unless students are encouraged to retain English, not Japanese, in their long-term memory after class, they will never acquire the command of English.
Why are they so, so stupid??

英語の授業は英語で?
「英語の授業は英語でやるべきでしょうか?」
同じ質問に対する答えも、誰が質問しているかによって変わる。
英語で英語の授業をやる自信がない人に対する答: 「当然です。日本人以外の学習者にも教えられるような英語力がなければ教師とはいえないでしょ。」 (参照 酸っぱいブドウ↓)
英語で英語の授業はとりあえず出来る人に対する答: 「教師だけが英語をいくら喋っていても、生徒の英語力は上がらない。英語の授業では生徒には必ず英語を喋らせるべきだ。またフィードバックは日本語でやったほうが効果的です。」

To those who do not think they are able to conduct a 50-minute session in English, I say to you that your priority is to enhance your speaking skills to the extent that you can comfortably conduct any activity using English, from grammatical explanation to reading between the lines. On the other hand, to those who CAN do everything in English if necessary, I would say that they should think about how to make their students do everything in English, rather than how to do so themselves.

音読できない生徒のリーディングは無意味だろ
その気になれば、きちんと音読できるが、いちいち音読せずに、黙読する学習者の「リーディング」には意味があるが、まともに音読できない生徒が、「読解」しても、英語力の向上にはならない。だから音読をしない「リーディング」授業をする学年になる前に、まともに文字を音声化できるスキルをつけてやるのが教師のつとめである。しかし、読解だって、英語によるやりとりによって進めるならば、音声が飛び交うよ。
If a learner cannot read aloud a text properly, there is no point in having him try to read it silently. Silently reading a text that one cannot properly read aloud is not a language behavior but crypt analysis. Therefore, it is your job to provide your students with the ability to read aloud English properly before they take a "reading" class. However, if you conduct your "reading" class in English, checking students comprehension, explaining the meanings of the text, having students making comments, etc., all in English, your "reading" class will not be very different from a speaking class, anyway.

授業は楽しいな
本当にいつも、いつも授業は最高に楽しいな。全員の目がこっちを向いて、必死に何かを身に付けようと口を動かして...
I truly love every minute of teaching students in class. Each and every of them staring at me, watching me, moving their mouth imitating me, desperately trying to acquire new skills ... I'm a lucky guy getting paid for doing what I love the most in my life.
