英語力が、「学力」のくくりで語られるのを聞いて、なにか違和感を覚えた。
「学力」という用語からは、要するにペーパーテストおよびその点数、およびそれを偏差値化したもの、などのイメージしか浮かんで来ない。
英語の運用力、実技、スキル、使える、スピーキング、ライティング、といったイメージは浮かんでこない。
はなせてナンボ、かけてナンボ、というイメージをもたないと。
Using the term "academic achievement" when talking about English sounds at least to me off the mark. That, I believe, reflects a mindset that considers English as just another school subject, as opposed to a language to be used in the real world.
