that節

高校生も大学生も、ほぼ例外なく身につけていないのが、

that節　の thatは、that節の部品だから、thatの後で区切ってはいけない

ということです。

例えば

What I was surprised at was that he didn't know what he was talking about.

で、

What I was surprised at was / that he didn't know . . .


（あるいは、What I was surprised at / was that he didn't know . . .）

でなければいけないのに、

What I was surprised at was that　/  he didn't know . . .

という生徒がほとんどだ、ということです。

that節は、thatの前で切れ。thatの後で切るな。
